The 1999/00 season saw Manchester United continue their domestic dominance but dip in their European aspirations – a year on from the incredible Treble-winning season.
United won the Premier League title by an 18-point margin to secure their sixth league triumph in eight seasons.
Manager: Sir Alex Ferguson
The Red Devils decided to win the Intercontinental Cup by defeating Palmeiras 1-0 in Tokyo to become the first English club to win the competition.
However, United reached the Champions League quarter-finals before losing 3-2 on aggregate against Real Madrid.
United controversially withdrew from the FA Cup at the request of the Football Association to compete in the inaugural FIFA Club World Championship in Brazil, before being eliminated in the group stage.
The League Cup run ended early as United suffered a 3-0 defeat against Aston Villa in the third round.

Dwight Yorke finished the season as United’s top scorer with 24 goals. The striker scored 20 goals in the Premier League that season, and he was closely rivalled by strike partner Andy Cole, who had a tally of 22 goals that season.

Manchester United 7-1 West Ham
A result that showed United’s dominance over other Premier League clubs at the time. It happened late in the season (April 1), resulting in United’s joint-biggest win of the season.
The Hammers took a surprising 11th-minute lead through Paulo Wanchope before United responded. Paul Scholes scored a hat-trick, and the other scorers included Cole, Denis Irwin, David Beckham, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
This result gave United a 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Manchester United 2-3 Real Madrid
The quarter-final second leg marked the end of United’s European reign – a year on from winning the European Cup for a second time.
After a scoreless draw with Real Madrid in the first-leg, it was all to play for at Old Trafford.
United scored two late goals from Beckham and Scholes, but it wasn’t enough for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to beat the eventual champions.

Manchester United 5-1 Newcastle
At the beginning of the season, Ferguson was eager to show there was no hangover following the Treble-winning season. He got that on August 30 as United put five goals past Newcastle.
Cole scored four goals against his former club in a game that solidified United’s position at the top of the table early in the season. Ryan Giggs also got his name on the scoresheet.
Liverpool 2-3 Manchester United
This fixture will be forever remembered as the day Jamie Carragher scored two own goals against United.
Ferguson’s men had Cole sent off with 20 minutes to go following a second yellow card.
