Man Utd have been linked with a deal to sign the Real Madrid legend next year.

Manchester United have been linked with a shock move to sign Sergio Ramos next year. The 39-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Mexican club Monterrey expired earlier in the month and is on the search for his next club.

Ramos does not intend to retire and is hopeful he will be able to secure a contract offer elsewhere. United are one of the clubs that have been linked with a sensational deal for the Spanish centre-back, though it appears those links have simply been manufactured to spread news of his availability ahead of the January transfer window.

Manchester World understand United have no interest in a move for Ramos and that no talks have taken place to even gauge the possibility of such a deal. United could add another centre-back to their squad next year, but will target a younger profile of player and have little interest in signing a star approaching the end of their playing career.

What Romano has heard about Ramos deal

Manchester United have no plans to sign Sergio Ramos as a free agent next year.

Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano was quizzed on the shock links with an Old Trafford move and dispelled any suggestion of ongoing talks. "I’m not aware of any contact between Sergio Ramos and Man United now," Romano simply stated.

United are not expected to be busy in the January transfer window but will be open to any market opportunities that might present themselves. The club is focused on a midfield refresh next year, with two additions expected in the position, and could break their club-record to sign an elite option.

Ruben Amorim would like to sign a Premier League-proven midfielder, with interest in Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba. There is an appreciation that none of those players will be available next month and that United will most likely have to wait until the summer to address the position.
