The 29-year-old impressed in his debut season at Napoli in the 2024-25 campaign and McTominay was named on the Ballon d’Or’s 30-man shortlist for the award.

McTominay made 36 appearances across all competitions in his first season at the Naples-based club and netted 13 times and registered six assists as well.

The United youth academy product lifted the Serie A title with Napoli last season after Antonio Conte’s men narrowly edged out rivals Inter Milan to the Scudetto.

Scott McTominay had spent his entire career with Manchester United before the Red Devils made the decision to offload the Scotland international from Old Trafford.

The former United midfielder was sold for £25.7m in 2024 after the Red Devils signed Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte from French side Paris Saint-Germain.

McTominay has come into his own under Napoli manager Antonio Conte and the Scottish talent has even transformed his look at the Serie A club.

The Napoli ace’s hair has been growing out and McTominay appears more physically imposing compared with his time in the United first team.

Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, Ben Foster said: “Incredible. Incredible. What a player.

“He looks like a man now, though, doesn’t he? He looks like a fully grown man.”

McTominay has endured a tougher second season at Napoli after the Scotland international’s influence has slightly waned due to the arrival of Kevin De Bruyne.

Napoli signed former Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer back in the summer and McTominay has been shifted out to the left side at times.

However, McTominay is still a key player for Conte during Napoli’s Serie A title defence and the former United talent is still important to Scotland’s plans as well.

McTominay has netted five times and picked up two assists in 20 matches across all competitions for Napoli in the 2025-26 campaign.
