‘Frustrating’… Ruben Amorim responds to Man Utd’s AFCON situation around Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has broken his silence on the situation surrounding Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui around AFCON.

Ruben Amorim was at the Carrington training complex on Friday afternoon and the 40-year-old Manchester United manager addressed the media’s questioning.

The former Sporting CP head coach was asked about United’s current predicament with three players ahead of the start of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

United will be dealt a major blow once AFCON commences, with Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo all being called up by their respective countries.

Mbeumo will link up with Cameroon for the 2025 edition of the tournament, while Amad will be reunited with the Ivory Coast and Mazraoui for Morocco.

The Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco and the host nation will kick off the competition on 21st December against Comoros in their Group A clash.

Noussair Mazraoui will likely depart first out of the AFCON-bound Manchester United trio, with Morocco to be in action at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The 2025 tournament will leave United head coach Ruben Amorim without three of his key Red Devils first-team players until January 2026 at the latest.

Amorim said that he is unsure if Mazraoui, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo could feature against Bournemouth and is “preparing” for all “scenarios” for the match.

“We are still in conversations with the national teams,” he explained at his pre-match press conference, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“The game is [on] Monday, they are here and training, but we are preparing all the scenarios for the game.”

United manager Amorim added: “I don’t know if it’s going to be the same situation.

“It depends on the games and every national team has an idea of when they want their players. I expect to know today.”

Ruben Amorim’s feelings on the uncertainty around the AFCON dynamic ahead of the Bournemouth match

United are waiting to hear back from the nations of Mbeumo, Amad and Mazraoui over whether the trio will be allowed to play on Monday evening at Old Trafford.

Amorim has admitted that the wait around whether or not the aforementioned United trio could be summoned for international duty has created conflicting feelings.

“It’s frustrating, but at the same time, nobody knows who is going to play, so it’s a good thing,” he added.

“We have players to cope with everything. With a long week, you can see a lot of things and work on stuff to prepare for any situation.”

United will host Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday evening and Amorim’s men will be in Premier League action from 8pm UK time.
