MANAGER Matt Hamshaw is quietly confident Dan Gore will be a Rotherham United player beyond the end of the January transfer window.
The Manchester United loanee has justified Hamshaw’s move to bring him back to the club this season after an injury hampered his progress in the second half of last term.
Gore has settled to become an important part of the team and, at 21, there is plenty of potential in the midfield man. And as a coach with a passion for working with and developing young players, Hamshaw wants to tap into that right through until May.
"If we get to the end of January and he’s still here then he will be a great signing,” he said.
"With loans, every manager will tell you make you have your plans and you want your loan players to do well and if they do then you might lose them in January.
"I’m hopeful that doesn’t happen. Danny is happy here and I have regular contact with Man United and they seem to be happy with him here.”
Gore has left Old Trafford for regular men's football and he is getting it.
He has already turned out 25 times this season and while that is good for Rotherham’s attempts to start becoming a fixture in the top half of League One rather than the bottom half, it does mean he will get noticed by other clubs.
Hamshaw is realistic.
"If someone comes in with a ‘blow-them-out-of-the-water’ offer than he is going to go, isn’t he?”
"Our plan is that he stays. He wants to, he is enjoying life and he is enjoying games at the minute.
"Manchester United want him to have a full season and that’s what we want.
"If he is here on February 1 then I’ll be delighted,” he added.
