Ruben Amorim explains what 'smart' Mason Mount offers Man Utd after resurgence in form

Ruben Amorim has expressed his feelings on Mason Mount and the important role he plays in the team ahead of Monday night’s match against Bournemouth.

When Mason Mount signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2023, he arrived as a Champions League winner looking to take Erik ten Hag’s side to the next level.

The England international struggled with fitness and injuries since then, and only now is he getting to show United fans what he is really about.

If Mount plays 37 minutes or more in Monday night’s game against Bournemouth, 2025/26 will be his highest in the Premier League for United, which indicates how much he has struggled since moving to Old Trafford.

Mount is only justifying the £55 million it took to sign him from Chelsea, but there’s still a lot more work to do on that front.

Mount was rated among United’s best players on Monday night during the 4-1 win over Wolves. He will be aiming to build on that performance against Bournemouth.

Ruben Amorim impressed by Mason Mount

United are better with Mount than without, as we’ve seen since the beginning of the season.

That will raise debate over whether Mount should be a starter under Amorim, but it’s no secret that the United head coach admires the hardworking playmaker.

When asked about Mount at his press conference on Friday, Amorim told reporters: “I think it’s hard to make that connection. It’s a fact [good record when Mount starts], but it’s not just that.

“We have to look at the way the game was, but he’s a very, very smart player, he’s really technical. Because sometimes to be a technical player is not just having fun with the ball.

“It’s the quality of the pass, the reception, how to receive the ball, and with these things he’s really smart. He can balance our team quite well, so he’s a very good player.”

Amorim explained the difference Mount makes to the team due to his intelligence on and off the ball, as well as his technical ability and willingness to play in tight areas.

Mount’s objective for the rest of the season should be to continue contributing to the team by staying fit. He’s good enough to make the difference in any game.

He still has some catching up to do to match his record of 33 goals and 37 assists for Chelsea.

Hopefully, Mount can add more goals to his account throughout the season.
