Manchester United star‘is set to leave’Old Trafford in January after failed summer exit

One player is reportedly set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window after their summer exit failed.

Manchester United were busy in the summer transfer window, with four major first-team signings coming into the building in Senne Lammens, Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

There were also many players who departed on loans or permanent transfers, and United are already looking ahead to the upcoming windows.

It remains to be seen whether the January window will see United make any significant signings to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad.

But it does look like the mid-season window could see some more exits at Old Trafford, with one young star set to leave the club.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, United Under-21s forward Sam Mather is set to leave the club in the January window.

Mather was close to joining Turkish club Kayserispor last summer but talks collapsed in the final days of the transfer window.

It is claimed that the young winger is keen to leave United and kickstart his professional career, with clubs in Turkey, Germany and Greece interested in him. United are willing to allow Mather to leave in January after his summer move collapsed.

Mather was part of the 2022 FA Youth Cup winning side alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. He has also trained regularly with Amorim’s squad.

Lacey coming through at United

Mather looked a really promising talent a few years ago but it has never really looked like he would push through into the first-team squad.

He will hopefully go on to have a good career while United will be hoping that other young attacking players can make the jump into the first-team.

Shea Lacey is the obvious option right now after making the last four matchday squads. He is a different kind of winger to Mather, and would suit the duel no.10 roles in Amorim’s system.

United fans will be hoping to see him in action in the coming weeks and he will be eager to impress if given the opportunity.
