Rúben Amorim has heaped praise on Mason Mount ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League tie against Bournemouth on Monday evening.
Manchester United are aiming to steady their league form when they welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Monday evening.
Rúben Amorim’s previous match delivered one of the standout results of his spell so far, with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice and Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount adding the others in a 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The only frustration was another outing without a clean sheet.
United have lost just once in their last nine Premier League games, yet only two victories in their most recent six matches have sparked discussion about how convincing their progress really is.
Bournemouth come into this fixture after a difficult stretch of four defeats and two draws in their past six league matches. Still, the Cherries have enjoyed themselves at Old Trafford in recent years, claiming back-to-back 3-0 wins on their last two visits.
Amorim heaps praise on Mount’s abilities
Mount has been nothing short of brilliant for United this season. His most recent display, in the 4-1 win against Wolves, was fantastic.
His talent has never been in doubt, but there have always been issues surrounding his fitness. Far too often under Erik ten Hag, the player had bouts of two or three months with various muscle injuries.
However, Amoirm must be given credit for his management of player injuries. Both Mount and Shaw, who have been serial visitors to the treatment rooms, have been fit and fantastic this campaign.
“He’s a very, very smart player, he’s really technical,” Amorim said on Friday afternoon. “He can balance our team quite well, so he’s a very good player.”
Mount is becoming integral to United
The statistics don’t lie. While Mount has not been hugely prolific, he’s been integral to United this campaign.
All three goals Mount has scored this season have come at perfect moments. His first, against Sunderland in October, was a strike that put United 1-0 up against a fantastic side and calmed all nerves. His second was then away against Crystal Palace, a winning goal.

His third then came against Wolves. With United already 2-1 up, Mount’s goal was the one to put the game completely to bed, with the United midfielder ghosting into the area to finish in emphatic style.
On a broader scale, the last eight games Mount has started, they’ve amassed six wins, one draw, and one loss. Compare this to the previous nine games he hasn’t started, which have yielded two wins, four draws, and three losses; his impact is clear.
While Mount is not the most flashy, exciting, or emotive player with the ball at his feet, it’s clear that his Champions League-winning experience and mentality has a huge role to play in United’s recent wins.
