Rúben Amorim confirms Manchester United injury latest vs Bournemouth amid Benjamin Šeško food poisoning

Rúben Amorim has co nfirmed the latest on his Manchester United squad’s injury list as they prepare to host Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

Manchester United will seek a more reliable run of results when they face Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

Rúben Amorim’s last outing produced one of the most significant wins of his reign, with goals from Bruno Fernandes (2), Bryan Mbeumo, and Mason Mount earning a 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The lack of a clean sheet, however, took a little shine off the result.

Despite losing only once in their past nine league matches, United have also won just twice in their last six, prompting debate about how strong their recent form truly is.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, arrive in poor shape after four defeats and two draws in their last six Premier League games. Even so, the Cherries have enjoyed real success on their recent visits to Old Trafford, recording consecutive 3-0 wins over the past two seasons.

Amorim confirms United’s latest injury news

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that despite reports of possible returns, none of Harry Maguire, Benjamin Šeško, or Matthijs de Ligt, all of whom have missed at least the club’s last two games, trained.

While the absences of De Ligt and Maguire have been covered well by youngster Ayden Heaven, Šeško is a brilliant focal point in United’s front three, and has been missed across the last month.

Speaking on Friday afternoon, Amorim provided an update on the injured and absent players in his squad, stating that Šeško’s return has been disrupted due to food poisoning.

“Maguire is out, De Ligt is out. Ben, we have to see,” Amorim told reporters. “We have to see if he’s available. He had some [food] poisoning, but we’ll see. Let’s wait. We have two trainings still. The other two are out, Benjamin, we will assess.”

Adding on the nature of De Ligt’s injury, the United boss said: “I think he has something in his back, I don’t know for sure. Sometimes you see it’s not a big injury because he finished the game quite well against Crystal Palace, but he has some pain.

“You sometimes think it will be solved during this week, but sometimes he feels a little bit of pain and we have to be a little careful with that.”

Could Martínez be in for a first start since his return?

United had been without centre-back Lisandro Martínez for around nine months before he made his return against Crystal Palace, with the Argentina international having suffered an ACL injury back in February.

But, having been in full contact training for over six weeks and featuring in the club’s last three games off the bench, Martínez could finally be ready to make his first start in Red, just before the end of the year.

United have games against Bournemouth (H), Aston Villa (A), Newcastle (H), and Wolves (H) to come before 2025 closes out.

With the middle two fixtures expected to be very physical, the game on Monday evening could be the ideal time for the 27-year-old to have his first run-out from the first whistle this season.
