Manchester United and Chelsea are both reportedly keen to sign a Sunderland player in the January transfer window.

Heading into January, United will want to strengthen Amorim’s squad to give the manager the best chance to finish in a Champions League place come the end of the season; however, it is difficult to bring in top players in January.

Man United and Chelsea eye Noah Sadiki

Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki joined the Black Cats in the summer transfer window, when they earned promotion. The 20-year-old has been a big part of Sunderland’s success this season, making 15 appearances for Regis Le Bris’ side.

It seems that he could be moving again in January, as both Chelsea and Man United are reportedly keen on him, according to Sky Sports Italy Journalist Sacha Tavolieri. He wrote: “Manchester United and Chelsea are vying for Noah Sadiki!

“The battle is already raging in the Premier League… and it concerns a name still relatively unknown to the general public, but not to scouts: Noah Sadiki. The Congolese midfielder from Sunderland is attracting a lot of attention, to the point that Manchester United and Chelsea have decided to step up their pursuit.”

Sadiki is just 20 years, and has shown his quality in the Premier League this season. He can play as a holding midfielder or a full-back and has a market value of just £22m. However, seeing as Sunderland signed him this season, they would likely demand a much higher transfer fee if they were to sell Sadiki.

Man United not expecting a busy January window

Man United released their financial reports for the financial year so far, and they have made a profit, with total revenues of over £140m, coming into the club. However, it is understood that there won’t be too much money to spend in January.

The summer transfer window is more of a target for the more expensive signings such as Anderson and Wharton, and United could potentially go without signing anyone unless they make any major sales to help boost their transfer budget.

Joshua Zirkzee has been linked with a move away, but he’s said he wants to stay and fight for his place, and apart from him, Tyrell Malacia is the other likely sale, as he was part of Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ in the summer transfer window. The Dutchman will be expecting at least a loan move, but United will want to get some funds back for him.
