Sergio Ramos to Manchester United links resurfaced this week, much to the surprise of everyone.
The 39-year-old, who became renowned as one of the best defenders in Europe during his time at Real Madrid, has confirmed that he will leave Mexican side Monterrey this month upon the expiration of his contract.
It remains to be seen if Sergio Ramos will retire, return to Europe or take his career somewhere else.
Reports linking Manchester United to Ramos this week were downplayed by Fabrizio Romano, who says he has heard nothing about a potential deal being a possibility between the two clubs.
Ineos have focused on signing young players since taking control of football operations, so signing a player soon to turn 40 would go completely against that policy.
Interestingly, it’s not the first time Ramos has been linked with a move to United.

The speculation did not go away in the years that followed. United would resurface – in the media – every time there was a debate over Ramos’ contract.

That’s an expensive list of defenders, especially as some of them flopped at Old Trafford.
Ramos would have been a brilliant signing during his prime years, which he gave to Real Madrid, winning everything in sight.
