United defeated Wolves 4-1 at the Molineux earlier this week to return to winning ways under Ruben Amorim and put themselves into the top-four picture.

The Red Devils have the real opportunity to end 2025 in a top-four position, but United’s wildly inconsistent form could be the club’s Achilles’ heel this season.

However, United manager Amorim has seen the tide turn in his favour at Old Trafford in recent months compared with the opening weeks of the campaign.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men will see an opportunity to compete in additional fixtures in 2026, with the Red Devils now set to start their FA Cup campaign.

United on Monday learned that fellow Premier League side Brighton will be their opponents in the third round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford in January 2026.

Speaking ahead of United’s match against Bournemouth on Monday, Amorim was asked about the Red Devils being matched up with Brighton in the FA Cup.

The 40-year-old former Sporting CP head coach showed where his ‘true’ sentiments were on the draw by not playing down the quality of the opposition team.

“For us, it doesn’t matter about the opponent,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We have proved this already this season that we cannot look who is the opponent.”

Ruben Amorim’s message to Man Utd fans and players after expressing his disappointment over the Carabao Cup

Amorim’s remarks were followed up with his feelings around United’s humiliating defeat to Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup back in August.

The Red Devils’ Carabao Cup run started and ended in the same month and United fans were left shell-shocked by the events that unfolded at Blundell Park.

Grimsby Town caused a stunning upset over United by overcoming Amorim’s side in a thrilling penalty shootout and progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Amorim has promised United fans his desire is to lead the club to the FA Cup trophy, but he did so by also expressing his disappointment with the Carabao Cup.

“We have a game, a cup game we need to win, we are out from the other one, we should be in both [of] the cups, so our goal is to win,” he added.

United’s early exit from the Carabao Cup left the Red Devils with only their league campaign to focus on in recent months amid the absence of European football.
