Latest Premier League news and rumours including updates from Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Premier League clubs have the opportunity to bring in some new faces in the January transfer window. Teams also have the chance to sell some players this winter if needed. Arsenal continue to lead the way at the summit but they are being chased down by the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa.
The Gunners are hoping that this is the year that they can finally get their hands on the trophy under Mikel Arteta. At the other end of the league, Wolves are winless and appear to be doomed. Burnley, West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are then battling to survive.
Chelsea leading race for Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are ‘leading’ the race to sign Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United. Bayern Munich and Napoli have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the midfield. He has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and his long-term future in the North West is up in the air right now.
Mainoo, 20, has been on the books of the Red Devils for his whole career to date and rose up through their academy. He was a regular at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team back in 2022. The Stockport-born man has since made 83 appearances in all competitions and has scored seven goals.
The 3am Verdict: Kobbie Mainoo needs to leave Manchester United for the sake of his career and a change of scene would do him good. He isn’t part of Ruben Amorim’s plans and a player of his talent needs to be playing every week at the top level. The England international would be ideal for Chelsea if they managed to see off competition from elsewhere for his services. He is still young and has bags of potential to get better in the future.
Tottenham Hotspur target Brentford striker Igor Thiago
Tottenham Hotspur are showing ‘serious interest’ in £61million-rated Brentford striker Igor Thiago ahead of next month, as per CaughtOffside. Thomas Frank is reportedly keen on luring the attacker to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also said to be in the picture as well.
The 24-year-old has flourished under the guidance of Keith Andrews at the Gtech Community Stadium over recent times. He is under contract with the Bees until June 2029 so they are under no immediate pressure to sell him and they can wait for big money. The attacker has fired 12 goals this term and has become a key player for his current club at the top end of the pitch.
The 3am Verdict: Igor Thiago has proved at Brentford this season that he knows where the back of the net is. He would be an exciting addition for Spurs if they were able to beat rivals like Newcastle United and Aston Villa to his signature. The striker would give Thomas Frank more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch and something different to what he has at his disposal already.
