Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has heaped praise onto one of Bournemouth’s top stars ahead of the two sides meeting tonight.

In the Premier League, Man United have won two and drawn two of their past five games, ending a painful streak of winless matches. It has thrust them up to eighth in the league, with Bournemouth currently sat 15th.

The Cherries had been flying as high as the top four earlier in the season, thanks largely to the efforts of forward Antoine Semenyo. The Ghana international, 25, has scored six goals and contributed three assists for Andoni Iraola’s side thus far - although the goals have somewhat dried up as of late.

Earlier in the season, news emerged that Semenyo has a £65m release clause that activates in the January transfer window. This has attracted the attention of Europe’s elite, with Liverpool and Man United thought to be among those interested in securing his services.

At a press conference, Amorim was asked about whether he wants to submit a bid for Semenyo when the transfer window opens in a couple of weeks.

He said: “They have a special player. They have many good players, but they have a special player in Semenyo. [He] can play both sides with both feet.

“I think there is a lot of special players in the league. What I feel is that it’s to summarise the top manager, top team. I really like the team and the top player. I think he is a special player.”

When pressed directly on the rumours about signing him, he added: “No, it’s not the case.”

As a winger who can play on either flank - or even upfront - Semenyo’s versatility also makes him a prized asset. Liverpool fans think he could be the heir to Mohamed Salah’s throne, especially if the Egyptian chooses to leave; Man City can never have too many wingers and Arsenal are always looking for more squad depth.
