Man United loanee appears to aim pointed message at Ruben Amorim in now-deleted post

Manchester United youngster Harry Amass appears to have hit back after Ruben Amorim singled him out alongside two other academy stars.

The 18-year-old, who is currently on loan at Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday, was handed his senior debut by United boss Amorim during their victory over Leicester in March.

Amass has since struggled to make an impact in the United first team and secured a temporary switch to the Yorkshire club where he has left a lasting impression.

The left-back has featured 16 times for Wednesday scoring once and registering an assist.

Despite earning plaudits for his displays this term, Amass was on the receiving end of a rant from Amorim during his press conference ahead of Monday’s night’s clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford, live on talkSPORT.

What did Amorim say about his young stars?

Discussing the current status of United’s emerging stars including that of Chido Obi and Toby Collier, Amorim was asked why Kobbie Mainoo had not been sent on loan after being used sparingly this season.

The United boss replied: “In the end, it's going to be the training, the games.

"Of course. He's not playing so many games, but Kobbie has had opportunities, especially last year. Everyone has.

"Amass is now struggling in the Championship. Chido is not always a starter in the under-21s.

"All these guys played when a lot of people were saying: 'Sack the manager'. So, you can see that I'm not worried."

The defender was immediately backed by swathes of Wednesday fans on social media all pointing out that his heroics had recently earned him the club’s Player of the Month award in November.

Amass cantered to the award with a whopping 82 per cent of the vote.

Evening the score

Amorim’s comments appeared to have struck a nerve with Amass who took to social media seemingly in response to the Portuguese tactician.

Just hours after Amorim’s apparent jibe, Amass posted a photo of himself holding the award alongside a smiling face emoji.

The photo, which was uploaded to his Instagram story, has since been deleted.

Amass wasn’t the only player to have supposedly hit back at Amorim with Chido Obi also fighting his own corner.

The Danish forward posted a story of him scoring a goal before also later deleting the post.

Obi also deleted Manchester United from his bio in what could be a show of disgruntlement following Amorim’s outburst.

Amorim’s attempt to clear up any confusion with his starlets will have to wait until after Manchester United’s clash with Bournemouth.

The Red Devils are set to play their second Monday night clash in succession knowing victory will take them into fifth place and level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea.

Amorim’s side have picked up seven points from their last three games and are showing progression on last season’s dismal 15th-placed finish.
