Leeds United have experienced a massive turnaround in fortunes over the past week. The Whites are slowly climbing out of the relegation zone as they continue to fight for survival this season.
A lot of planning went into this campaign; when Leeds won the Championship, the club already had plans put in action for recruitment. Sources said that the club focused on more physical profiles to match the intensity in English football. This summer, Leeds added the likes of Jaka Bijol, Anton Stach and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – players who can win their duels all over the pitch.

And with how the season has gone, the summer window moves have garnered mixed reactions. While some players hit the ground running and are already a big part of the team, others have still yet to find their feet.

As the January window approaches, many people around the club are expecting some new faces at Elland Road. The Whites are slowly improving as the games go by and some reinforcements could add a further boost. Lukas Nmecha picked up an injury recently, which caused some concerns among the team. The German’s recent run in the team was successful, but he got injured and Dominic Calvert-Lewin had to step up.
With two injury-prone strikers in the squad, it looks like Leeds United will look to Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee. TEAMTalk are reporting that the Dutch forward is open to leaving Old Trafford in January, with the Whites among the suitors. Zirkzee has found himself out of favour under Amorim, and could look elsewhere for playing time.
A move for Zirkzee is not worth it
Despite the injury concerns, both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha are much better options at center forward than the Manchester United man. Leeds would be throwing money away if they are truly pursuing the Dutch star.
We have seen in recent weeks that this Leeds attack can score, with Calvert-Lewin carrying the load in recent games. So trying to add Zirkzee in January makes close to zero sense. Factoring in the wages and cost involved, the club would be better off looking elsewhere for options when the window opens. Also, bringing a player from Manchester United would cause massive outrage among the fanbase, and the 49ers know better than to antagonize their supporters.
