Man United eye £40m raid on Premier League club for new midfielder in January

Manchester United are considering a move for Bournemouth's Tyler Adams, talkSPORT understands.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of Premier League midfielders in recent months, including the likes of Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton and Brighton's Carlos Baleba.

Also among those tipped to bolster Ruben Amorim's engine room is Nottingham Forest man Elliot Anderson, with talkSPORT reporting in October that United have an appreciation for him.

But any one of the trio is likely to prove costly for United, with Brighton slapping a £115million price tag on Baleba in the summer.

It is a similar story for Anderson, with reports suggesting Forest value him at around £100m, while Wharton is said to be rated at £60m.

And as they prepare to take on Bournemouth on Monday night, live on talkSPORT, Adams could have extra motivation to put in a strong display at Old Trafford.

Multiple reports claim that the US international's name has been mentioned in conversations over United's future midfield targets, having been targeted by Chelsea in the summer.

The Daily Mail report that Adams has a valuation of around £40million, making him an attractive prospect compared to other midfield targets.

And transfer correspondent Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Adams is on United's radar, but with a move likely to be next summer.

While no formal negotiations are yet to be held, he revealed a move is more likely to emerge next summer.

This is due to next summer's World Cup, where the 26-year-old is preparing to captain his country at the home tournament in June.

It is understood a deal for Adams could emerge if United are unable to sign one of their top two targets in Anderson or Baleba.

In this case, the Red Devils could instead look to bring in two midfielders, with one likely to be an affordable, squad depth option.

This is where Adams comes into the picture, who is seen as a player that satisfies this brief, especially if current midfield duo Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes both stay at the club.

United are said to be admirers of the American's skillset, who would offer both leadership and the box-to-box qualities their midfield has at times been found lacking.

And while Bournemouth would be reluctant to let their key man go, they are expected to listen to offers for him following the end of the World Cup.

After an injury-hit first season following his arrival from Leeds in 2023, Adams turned a corner in the 2024/25 campaign.

He was a virtual ever-present in Andoni Iraola's side that finished ninth in the Premier League, having mounted a European charge.

Adams has kept up his impressive displays this term, starting in 14 of Bournemouth's 15 league games.

The midfielder also grabbed the headlines in November, when he found the net with a spectacular 50-yard effort against Sunderland.

What has Tyler Adams said about Man United?

With United now rumoured to be interested in him, Adams has already spoken favourably about his potential suitors, admitting he always relishes taking on the 20-time English champions.

Looking ahead to Bournemouth's Monday night clash with United, he said: "It's just a special occasion.

"This is what you grow up watching, whether you're a fan or not. A fan of Manchester United walking into Old Trafford will change your perspective on everything.

"I played against Manchester United at Old Trafford during Covid with RB Leipzig.

"That was the first time I walked into Old Trafford and I was like, my dream is really to play in the Premier League because this is what it's about right here.
