United denied in eight-goal thriller as Bournemouth rallies three times

Manchester United and Bournemouth battled to a mouthwatering 4-4 draw at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The host got off to a great start and took the lead in the 13th minute when Diogo Dalot’s long searching ball skipped past Matheus Cunha’s head, and Djordje Petrovic deflected it into the path of Amad Diallo, who headed in from close range.

Cunha came close to doubling United’s advantage seven minutes later after he was picked out by Bruno Fernandes at the edge of the box, but the Brazilian skied his effort.

Moments later, Bryan Mbeumo saw his effort saved by Petrovic just before the half-hour mark.

At the other end, Senne Lammens comfortably saved Marcus Tavernier’s header from a Justin Kluivert cross from the right.

Minutes later, Adam Smith made a crucial block to deny Amad after the winger wriggled himself in through on goal, and then Mbeumo skied Cunha’s deep cross.

In the 40th minute, Antoine Semenyo drew the Cherries level after Luke Shaw was dispossessed, with Smith finding the Ghanian, who fired in a low shot into the far post beyond a stretching Lammens.

Casemiro restored the host’s lead just before the break, after he headed in Fernandes’ deep cross from a corner.

30 seconds after the restart, Evanilson drew the visitors level again after he was played through on goal by Tavernier, who then slotted into the far corner off the inside of the post.

In the 51st minute, Tavernier gave the Cherries the lead from a delightful curler from a free kick.

Mbeumo missed a golden chance to draw the host level after he blasted over his effort from a promising position.

In the 77th minute, Fernandes equalised for the Red Devils with a beautifully taken free kick which nestled into the top corner.

Two minutes later, Cunha gave United the lead after Benjamin Sesko’s intended cross to Amad was cut out by Tuffert, which fell into the path of the Brazilian, who calmly slotted it home past Petrovic.

United’s lead lasted for only five minutes, as substitute Eli Kroupi was found by Jimenez, who then drilled in a low shot into the far corner.

Lammens made two crucial saves on David Brooks to deny the Cherries the win deep into stoppage time.
