Ruben Amorim said Manchester United's dazzling attacking display against Bournemouth had inspired their fans after the two teams combined to deliver the game of the Premier League season at Old Trafford. United produced one of their best attacking performances under Amorim, with 25 shots and a string of stylish moves as Amorim tinkered with his system and saw more players getting into positions around the opposition penalty area.

The vibrancy came with risks at the back, however, and after Bournemouth made it 4-4 with six minutes to go, they threatened to win the game three times in added time, with Senne Lammens rescuing United. It was a wild and chaotic game and ultimately one United should have won, although Amorim was keen to take the positives from a performance he felt was in keeping with the club's ethos.

"If you understand a little bit, if you follow the club like I follow Premier League for so long, you have not just the duty to try to win the games, but the way you try to win the games is so important for the fans," he said.

"They are desperate to win, but they are also, I feel that they are desperate to be inspired when they come to Old Trafford. Today was inspiring, I think also because of Bournemouth, but in the end, that's the feeling of frustration not winning the game."

Only Manchester City (38) have scored more than United's 30 Premier League goals this season and their attack has been transformed by a £215million summer spending spree on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Amorim feels that has made his team more watchable but he knows they can't sacrifice defensive quality at the altar of scoring more goals.

"I think people enjoy more to see Manchester United this season, but we need to put both things together," he said. "Sometimes closing the games is so important to give different issues to everything that we did really well. "

United have made a habit of throwing away leads recently and they led three times against the Cherries, but Amorim rejected the idea that it was a mentality issue affecting his team.

"It's understanding of the moments of the game, understanding that a lot of goals, it's after half-time, we need to start the second half in a different way," he said.

"So it's everything together, it's not a mentality thing, it's the understanding of the game and how to play the game in different moments."
