Manchester United are formulating their transfer plans ahead of the January window. Ruben Amorim’s side are still targeting a Champions League spot after missing out on a European place last term.

It was an expensive summer at Old Trafford, with the bulk of the club’s transfer budget being spent on a new front three of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Senne Lammens was also recruited to solve the club’s goalkeeping issue but their squad still needs strengthening.

United have already been linked with several targets, including Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo. Here is a closer look at some of the headlines surrounding Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim gives Antoine Semenyo verdict

Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo has been widely tipped for a move in the January window. United were one of several clubs to show interest in the Ghana international before he signed a new deal in the summer.

His contract reportedly includes a £65million release clause, which becomes active next month. It has led to speculation that United could revive their interest in Semenyo, who enjoyed a strong start to the season, but Amorim has distanced the club from a move for the Cherries forward.

The United boss said: “They have a special player. They have many good players but they have a special player in Semenyo. [He] can play both sides with both feet.”

However, when asked about a possible deal for Semenyo, Amorim added: “No, it’s not the case. I think there is a lot of special players in the league. What I feel is that it’s to summarise the top manager, top team. I really like the team and the top player. I think he is a special player.”

Man Utd linked with £40m target

Manchester United are being linked with several midfield targets and Bournemouth's Tyler Adams has been added to that list. Amorim’s side have been touted to strengthen in midfield, having favoured an unlikely pivot of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes throughout the season.

The Daily Mail reports that Adams has been discussed as a potential midfield signing. The 26-year-old is valued at £40m, making him a considerably cheaper option than Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton or Brighton star Carlos Baleba.

Adams has been a key player for Andoni Iraola's team so far this term. The USA international joined the Cherries from Leeds in 2023. He was initially inspired to move to the Premier League during his time at RB Leipzig after facing United at Old Trafford.

“It's just a special occasion,” Adams said of playing at the stadium. “This is what you grow up watching, whether you're a fan or not. A fan of Manchester United walking into Old Trafford will change your perspective on everything.

“I played against Manchester United at Old Trafford during Covid with RB Leipzig. That was the first time I walked into Old Trafford and I was like, my dream is really to play in the Premier League because this is what it's about right here.”
