Gary Neville issues concern about Man Utd form after‘madness’ 4-4 draw against Bournemouth

Gary Neville was on co-commentary duty as Manchester United dropped more points from home in the Premier League against Bournemouth.

It was a frustrating night as Manchester United drew 4-4 with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

After dominating the first half and leading 2-1 at half-time, United didn’t kick on in the second half and conceded two quick-fire goals to trail 3-2.

Ruben Amorim’s side eventually pulled themselves back into the game thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha.

Unfortunately, there was more drama late on as Eli Junior Kroupi made it 4-4 to secure a point for Bournemouth.

As late as the 96th minute, former United target David Brooks had a free header that Senne Lammens stopped. He had another effort on goal in the 100th minute.

The result means United are sitting sixth in the Premier League table.

Gary Neville verdict on Man Utd 4-4 Bournemouth

Although it’s never easy to watch United concede, Gary Neville was sounding more optimistic about the way United played throughout the game – even when they were chasing the game at 3-2.

There were clear signs of intent to attack, and the Old Trafford faithful reacted positively to Kobbie Mainoo’s introduction for Casemiro in the second half.

Sadly, United’s unsettled defence has been unable to find a way to stop conceding soft goals, and Lammens did poorly for Bournemouth’s third before redeeming himself late on.

It’s no wonder that United have struggled in defence without Matthijs de Ligt or even Harry Maguire, but it’s worth noting that Ayden Heaven earned a high rating for his performance against the Cherries.

Speaking on Sky Sports during the match, former United captain Neville gave his verdict on United’s performance, as well as highlighting a concern with the team’s recent form at Old Trafford.

“Absolute madness,” Neville said, as quoted by BBC Sport. “End-to-end. Punch for punch, especially the second half. It’s a game that you could not call. I’m not sure who’s going to be happiest at the end.

“I said partway through the game, I could live with how Manchester United played through that game, but you can’t get away from it’s seven points dropped from their last three games at home.”

United haven’t been consistent enough away from home to let their record at home slip. This is something Amorim must address quickly even without AFCON stars Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo.

Man Utd’s worrying defensive record under Ruben Amorim

Only Wolves, West Ham and Tottenham are the only Premier League clubs to have conceded more goals than United since Amorim became head coach.

From his 43 games in charge, United have scored 62 goals and conceded 68 goals.
