Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim does not know whether Matthijs de Ligt or Harry Maguire will return from injury in time to face Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend. United dropped more points at Old Trafford by drawing 4-4 with Bournemouth on Monday night, failing to claim a victory despite going 4-3 ahead with just 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The Reds would have moved to fifth in the Premier League table if they had seen the game out against Bournemouth. Amorim's attention will now turn to facing the most in-form side in the top flight, Aston Villa, but United could be without De Ligt and Maguire again for their trip to Birmingham.

As Amorim left his press conference after drawing against Bournemouth, he was asked whether De Ligt or Maguire could return, and he admitted he was unsure if they would be available.

De Ligt has missed games against West Ham, Wolves and Bournemouth due to a back injury. Speaking last week, Amorim said: "I think he has something in his back. I don't know for sure. He finished the game against Crystal Palace, but sometimes he feels pain, and we have to be careful with that."

Maguire has not played since picking up a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham last month. The 32-year-old watched the Bournemouth game from the directors' box on Monday night.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo played their final game for United against Bournemouth before representing the Ivory Coast and Cameroon respectively at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Noussair Mazraoui was unavailable for the game after reporting for AFCON duty with Morocco.
