Ruben Amorim Plans To Block £35m Chelsea Transfer Move For "Special" Midfielder

Man United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly ready to block a transfer move from Chelsea to sign Kobbie Mainoo.

The Blues have been linked to Mainoo in the past, and seeing as the Man United star has struggled to get into Ruben Amorim’s starting XI, he could be leaving in January. Mainoo has reportedly requested to leave the club to get more game time, and reports have linked Chelsea to signing the 20-year-old.

However, according to the Metro, Ruben Amorim plans to block any transfer moves for Mainoo in the January transfer window, even though he seems very reluctant to play him over the likes of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.

Chelsea seems to have given up on midfielder Romeo Lavia, who has been very injury-prone since joining in 2023. Lavia has made just 30 appearances, and Mainoo is seen as a potential replacement for the Belgian international.

Mainoo has a market value of around £35m, so Chelsea could certainly afford a January move for him, but it seems that Man United are going to reject it if they do bid for the 20-year-old.

Paul Scholes says Chelsea target Mainoo is “special”

Mainoo has a lot of fans, as he has shown both for Man United and for England that he is a very high-potential player, and if the Blues were to land him, they would be getting a really impressive midfielder.

Former Man United star Paul Scholes has previously spoken out in support of Mainoo, suggesting that he needs more game time, and he’s being wasted at Manchester United.

Scholes was quoted by 90min.com: “Read a few comparisons between me and this kid…don’t waste your time — he is 10 times the player I was at 20.

“I just love the way he receives the ball, the calmness, the awareness of what’s around him and of course big goals in big games… This boy is special… and he’s a Red.”
