47-touch Man United star unlocked a new position vs Bournemouth after Ruben Amorim tweak

Ruben Amorim experimented with a new formation during Manchester United’s draw against Bournemouth.

In the build-up to the Premier League clash, reports suggested that Ruben Amorim has been working on a 4-3-3 formation in training.

With Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui now away on AFCON duty, Manchester United are without three key players who make Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system tick.

Gary Neville praised Amorim’s tactics during the match after spotting United transitioning between a three-at-the-back and a four-man defence.

United were tactically fluid and it resulted in a very impressive attacking display. Unfortunately, United struggled defensively with key players still missing. But it did provide a platform for Leny Yoro to shine.

Leny Yoro unlocks new position for Man United

Before kick-off, Amorim played Ferguson-esque mind games with his line up, refusing to comment on what formation would be used and whether Mbeumo and Amad would be available.

It worked a treat, as Bournemouth appeared to be stunned early on at Old Trafford. United had enough chances in the opening half an hour to bury the game, but poor finishing proved costly again.

United transitioned to a four-at-the-back formation, and it was 20-year-old Yoro who stepped out into a right-back position.

Up against ‘special’ Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert in the first half, Yoro coped well defensively and even offered attacking support down the right.

Moving forward, Yoro proved to Amorim that he is an option at right-back if United stick with their new 4-3-3 shape.

As per SofaScore, Yoro boasted a 100% tackle success rate and won more duels than he lost.

It wasn’t a perfect defensive display, but that was more down to the chaotic back-and-forth nature of the match.

Once Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are back fit and ready to start, Yoro might find it difficult to compete for a centre-back spot.

But he has now proven he is a contender at right-back, especially during a period where United will be without Amad and Mazraoui.
