Aston Villa will be eager to keep the player at Villa Park for as long as possible under Unai Emery

Aston Villa are back in action on Sunday as they look to keep their momentum going. Manchester United are the visitors to Villa Park. Unai Emery’s side have been in impressive form over recent weeks and are sat in 3rd place in the table.

The Midlands club are three points behind Arsenal at the summit and two off Manchester City in 2nd. They won 3-2 away at West Ham last time out. Morgan Rogers was on the scoresheet twice at the London Stadium against the Hammers, whilst Konstantinos Mavropanos scored an own goal.

Aston Villa contract update regarding Youri Tielemans

Aston Villa plan to open ‘talks’ with Youri Tielemans over a new deal, according to Football Insider. He has been a key player since joining back in 2023. His contract expires in June 2027 meaning he doesn’t have too long left on his current arrangement.

Emery has recently described him as an ‘important’ member of his squad: "His courage has always been consistent. He didn't come here and immediately reach the levels he did at Leicester City, but his qualities are very important for us. He has shown versatility, playing as a six, an eight or a 10, so he will get his chances either way."

Tielemans, 28, is a Belgium international with 81 caps under his belt for his country to date. He started his career at Anderlecht and rose up through their academy before breaking into their first-team as a youngster. AS Monaco lured him over to France in 2017 and he spent two years on the books of the Ligue 1 giants.

Leicester City then brought him to England and he went on to become one of their most prized assets during his time at the King Power Stadium. Aston Villa came calling in 2023 and he hasn’t looked back since. He has made 112 appearances for them in all competitions, scoring nine goals.

What now for Youri Tielemans and Aston Villa?

Securing an extension with Tielemans would be a shrewd bit of business by Aston Villa. They won’t want to lose him free when his deal runs out. He is still under 30 and has plenty of time left ahead of him in the game as he looks to help his current team win some trophies.

Villa’s recent form has got their fans dreaming of a serious title charge. They are proving to be a tough nut to crack at the moment and will be in confident mood. Their upcoming opponents Manchester United drew 4-4 with AFC Bournemouth in their last outing and although they are capable of finding the net, they have been leaking a lot of goals at the other end which should give Emery encouragement.

Tielemans has been enjoying plenty of game time recently and can operate in a number 10 role as well as in his usual central midfield position. He has become experienced years and his game has matured. Time will tell whether he will put pen-to-paper on fresh terms in the near future.
