Bruno Fernandes can be seen instructing Senne Lammens to move to the United summer signing’s right after the wall protected the left side of his net.

From his position over the dead ball, Tavernier had several United players protecting the right side and Matheus Cunha and Fernandes were both out on the left.

There was a space between Fernandes and Matheus Cunha, which allowed Tavernier to squeeze his powerful strike through the United duo and into the back of the net.

However, Fernandes had clearly instructed Lammens to move more towards the right side of his own net and the Belgian shot-stopper was caught out.

“Look at Bruno there, telling his goalkeeper, ‘Get across. Get across. We’ve already got this side of the goal locked off,’” he said on Premier League productions.

“This is the side of the goal you need to protect. Now, we questioned whether there should be a gap there, Michael [Carrick], because that just gives you a gap to hit.”

Michael Owen is equally right to ask why United allowed the space between Fernandes and Matheus Cunha after protecting the other side of the net.

However, Fernandes’ football IQ was on top form with his observation and Lammens should have known better and trusted his captain’s advice during the key moment.
