Kobbie Mainoo must do exact opposite of what former Man Utd teammate failed to prevent under Ruben Amorim– opinion

Kobbie Mainoo is in a luxurious position to avoid repeating the same mistake that one of his former Manchester United teammates made under Ruben Amorim.

Hindsight is something that is on the side of Kobbie Mainoo, but the same cannot be said about his Manchester United first-team minutes at Old Trafford this season.

The 20-year-old Stockport-born talent has lost his place in the United starting XI and has been clawing at opportunities under Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim.

Mainoo has made all 11 of his Premier League appearances in the 2025-26 season from the United bench, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup in August.

The midfielder is already dealing with trying to convince United manager Amorim to play him, but Mainoo has been left with another headache to deal with now.

Kobbie Mainoo’s brother is giving the Man Utd midfielder the chance to nullify something before it festers further

Kobbie Mainoo’s half-brother overshadowed the midfielder’s cameo appearance in Manchester United’s 4-4 draw against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday.

The England international received a wonderful reception from United fans after he climbed off the bench and replaced Casemiro in the 61st minute of the clash.

But Jordan Mainoo-Hames stoked the flames further after he was spotted at Old Trafford with a ‘free Kobbie Mainoo’ T-shirt during United’s tie with Bournemouth.

Mainoo’s half-brother might have only been trying to ‘show his support’ for the Three Lions star, but the situation could only become more intense because of it.

The last thing that Mainoo needs is for the actions of others to create a fracture in his relationship with Ruben Amorim at the Premier League club this season.

Mainoo’s newfound situation with Jordan Mainoo-Hames is something that United fans will feel all too familiar with, considering one player’s situation last season.

Kobbie Mainoo cannot afford to have an ‘Alejandro Garnacho situation’ develop with Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

Alejandro Garnacho’s fate at Old Trafford was sealed last season after the former United winger criticised Amorim’s decision to drop him from the Europa League final.

The 21-year-old Spain-born attacker’s relationship with Amorim was never the same after United lost 1-0 to Tottenham at the San Mames Stadium back in May.

Amorim told former United talent Alejandro Garnacho that his future at Old Trafford was over and the Argentina international was offloaded to Chelsea in the summer.

Garnacho’s troubled situation with the 40-year-old United manager was not aided by the cheerleading antics of his brother, Roberto Garnacho, in the 2024-25 season.

One only needs to look at how Roberto Garnacho suggested that his brother had been “thrown under the bus” after he was dropped for the Europa League final.

Garnacho’s final months at United should be the only sign that Mainoo needs to ensure another attention-seeking stunt involving Jordan Mainoo-Hames doesn’t arise.
