An insight into Ruben Amorim’s Man United future has been revealed after the Red Devils were involved in a chaotic draw on Monday night

As the final whistle blew at Old Trafford on Monday night, the confusion from Manchester United fans was palpable as they attempted to come to terms with what they had just witnessed.

Silence reigned much of the stadium following the end of an enthralling 4-4 draw between United and Bournemouth, where the home side led three times but were pegged back and then almost lost it in injury time.

That the Red Devils have got their scoring boots back this season there is no doubt, but their record of 26 goals conceded is surpassed by only five teams in the division, only one of which is outside of the bottom four in the table. That, incidentally, being their visitors on the night, the Cherries.

Questions will be asked of Ruben Amorim after the result, which showed United’s shortcomings in defence more strongly than ever. Journalist David Ornstein has shed light on how the club’s hierarchy feel about the Portuguese following the result.

Ornstein reveals Man United board’s feelings on Amorim after 4-4 Old Trafford draw

Speaking live on Sky Sports News’ Back Pages Tonight on Monday night, Ornstein revealed that United chiefs remain firmly behind Amorim, and “fully believe” that the Portuguese head coach can turn things around at Old Trafford.

Ornstein said: “Well, that they're not the force that he wants them to be, or that the Manchester United fans, or English football, quite frankly, expect of them.

“And I mean, the post-Alex Ferguson era has had a few highs, but it's mainly been lows, and many of them have come under Ruben Amorim.

“But the club clearly fully believe in him and are backing him to turn this around, slowly but surely, they're backing him in the transfer market as well. And of course, they're afflicted by injuries.”

Amorim also showed an increased adaptability during the match, as he appeared to deviate slightly from his trusted 3-4-3 formation when United went all-out attack looking for an equaliser in the second half. They appeared to line up in a 4-2-4 late on as the Portuguese showed a willingness to change his tactical plan which has often been absent during his tenure up to this point, drawing praise from Gary Neville for the in-game change.

Amorim: ‘The result should be different’

United boss Amorim reflected in his post-match interview with Sky Sports that while the match was entertaining for the neutral, he believed that his side should have got more than a point and put their visitors well out of reach.

Amorim said: "A fun game. We started really well, did a very good first half. The result should be completely different.

"We lost the concentration and they scored two goals. But we managed to get back to the game, we scored two goals again and then we have to finish the game. We need to think about not to go again, but to take calm and to close the game. A lot of good things, but a lot of things to work.

"We are not winning games sometimes in the details because it's a back four, back three, back five. It's the details that we need to work, understand the momentum of the game. You need to be more clinical, because today against a very good team we create so many chances to win the game.

"We need to focus on the performance today, different from the last two at home. That is also a point that we pay attention to. The result is the same and at one point, it's frustrating, but the performance is different."
