The former Udinese ace, who arrived at the Red Devils in a £67.6million switch from Sporting CP in February 2020, struck a magnificent free-kick and added an assist during United's draw with Bournemouth.
In his post-match comments, Fernandes left supporters stunned by confirming United's attempts to move him on.
The midfielder has now elaborated on his future prospects in a fresh interview with Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, suggesting he remains open to departing United before long.
Fernandes revealed: "I want to stay at Manchester United as long as I feel desired. I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy. I have many connections to Italy... my daughter was born there.
"I've already thought about returning to Portugal... the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting. But I don't want to ruin the image that was left.
"But I don't want to drag myself there, I want to add to it. And even try district football, at an advanced age. You play in the district for love, you feel different. I have friends in the district."
Fernandes initially relocated to Italy in 2012 following his transfer to Novara. He remained there for one campaign before switching to Serie A outfit Udinese, where he enjoyed a fruitful three-season stint.
Following 11 goals and 13 assists across 95 matches for Udinese, he joined Sampdoria in 2016. However, Fernandes found it difficult to establish himself there and returned to Portugal with Sporting CP 12 months later.
It was at Sporting where Fernandes truly flourished, with the midfielder finding his rhythm and producing exceptional statistics in the Primeira Liga. Despite spending merely two-and-a-half seasons at the Lisbon outfit, Fernandes managed to accumulate 63 goals and 50 assists across 137 matches, claiming three major honours along the way.
Fernandes arrived at United during the January 2020 transfer window and has since established himself as an indispensable squad member, netting 103 goals and contributing 93 assists in 307 outings.
