Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed that the boardroom at Old Trafford were happy to sell him in the summer.
In an eyebrow-raising interview this week, Bruno Fernandes said he was ‘hurt’ at the club’s stance over his future last summer.
Fernandes rejected a £100 million move to Saudi Arabia in a true show of loyalty to Manchester United, but the Portuguese playmaker feels as though those in charge of the club were happy for him to leave.

Fernandes is entitled to speak his mind after cementing his legacy as a United legend since joining the club back in 2020.
In his comments, Bruno Fernandes did defend Ruben Amorim and explained that the United boss was key to his decision to stay.

Ineos are ignoring Ruben Amorim’s transfer rule
Amorim has been pushing to improve United’s recruitment since his appointment as head coach.
This summer, Amorim revealed United have introduced a new transfer ‘rule’. The Portuguese coach wants Ineos to prioritise the character and mentality of a player before deciding whether or not to bring them to Old Trafford.

Fernandes said it best in his interview: “You see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much… that makes you sad.”

Too many players have arrived and not given their all at Old Trafford, but that cannot be said of Fernandes.
Fernandes is always available and has always given everything since joining from Sporting Lisbon. Amorim raves about Fernandes’ character, and even said that United need more players like him.
For Ineos to want to sell a role model such as Fernandes is a betrayal of Amorim’s transfer rule.
Bruno Fernandes’ value at Man United
United turned down £100 million for Fernandes in the summer, and there should be no regrets around the club at that decision.
The 30-year-old playmaker is worth so much more than just money to this squad. Fernandes is a natural leader, a brilliant captain and still a huge source of goals and assists.

Fernandes leads the Premier League in assists, continues to dominate the chances created table despite playing deeper, and off the pitch, he has helped Amorim create a much healthier environment around Carrington.
Players like Fernandes are simply irreplaceable, and Ineos should be doing everything possible to keep hold of the Portugal international during this rebuilding phase.
