Man United have been linked to signing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba in the January transfer window.
It is understood that Baleba wants the move to United, but seeing as he is likely to be so expensive, it will be difficult for United to land him in the January transfer window, so they may have to look at alternative options instead.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has also been linked, but he’s also expected to be very expensive, so United will need to consider more realistic options ahead of the January window.
Man United linked with ex-Leeds star
Fresh reports have added a new name to the list of potential midfield signings in January for the Red Devils, as former Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has been linked. According to the Daily Mail, Adams has emerged as a cheaper alternative to Baleba, as he is expected to command a transfer fee of around £40m.
Adams is now playing for Bournemouth and has impressed in recent weeks. The USA international has scored two goals and provided one assist for the Cherries this season, in 15 games in the Premier League.
The report says that Adams has more interceptions than any other midfielder in the Premier League this season, barring Moises Caicedo, who has been simply unplayable for Chelsea. The 26-year-old is exactly what United needs in a proven holding midfielder, who has shown that he can perform well at the Premier League level.
Adams joined Bournemouth in 2023, after he moved from Leeds United for a fee of around £24m. He would be a great addition in January as he can play both as a holding midfielder or as a right-back, which could come in handy for squad depth and Amorim’s rotation.
Man United could sign Adams or Gomes in January
The Red Devils want to add more quality in midfield in the January window, but they are unlikely to spend over £100m on the likes of a Baleba, or an Anderson, hence why reports have linked them to someone like Adams, who won’t cost as much as their other targets.
Another name in the same category as Adams is Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, who has also emerged as a cheaper alternative for a potential January transfer. Rob Edwards has made it clear that Gomes isn’t for sale, but it is understood that the player could have his head turned by United’s interest.
Gomes has made 15 Premier League appearances for Wolves this season, and the 24-year-old is expected to command a transfer fee of around £35m to £45m, based on how willing Wolves are to selling the Brazilian. Gomes and Adams could be United’s main two options heading into the window.
