Former Manchester United and Liverpool attacker Paul Ince has stated whichever of his former clubs are able to offer Champions League next season will win the race for Antoine Semenyo.

The Bournemouth star, who scored in Monday night's 4-4 thriller against United at Old Trafford, has been tipped to make a big decision this January. Talk of a transfer is rife ahead of the next window opening on January 1, with suitors reportedly given a limited-time opportunity to sign Semenyo using a £65m release.

However, Ince has advised the 25-year-old to ignore United, or any other interested parties, and wait until next summer to decide his next club.

"I was surprised that Liverpool or Manchester United didn’t sign Antoine Semenyo at the start of the season, because he’s a top player," Ince admitted first in conversation with Covers.com World Cup betting team.

The Ghanaian has managed seven goals and three assists in 15 Premier League appearances so far in 2025/26.

Taking stock of the situation, Ince continued: "He should wait until the summer transfer window to make a move; January isn’t a great time to move and clubs often don’t like parting with players midway through a season.

"I don’t see him staying put beyond the summer though. Bournemouth are great at sourcing players from all over the world, but ultimately they’ve always been a selling club.

"He’ll have plenty of options on the table. He’s got all the attributes to improve even more too; he’s great on both feet, strong, quick and can bag you plenty of goals, as we’ve seen so far this year."

It has been claimed Amorim would seek to use Semenyo as an attacking wing-back in his efforts to restore United back to European competition for next season.

At present the Reds sit sixth in the Premier League table, equal on points with bitter rivals Liverpool - another club who have been linked with interest in Semenyo. In turn, both are two points adrift of the top-four places required to reach the Champions League.

And in Ince's mind, whoever is able to offer Semenyo the chance to play in this competition will win his signature. This will only be determined come the current season's end, therefore is why the 58-year-old recommends the player stay with Bournemouth for the time being.

"In terms of whether he’ll move to Liverpool or Man Utd, it depends on which one will finish in the top four and have Champions League football to look forward to next season. If I were in his position, I’d stay put for now at Bournemouth until the end of the season, and see which one of those teams finishes in the top four."
