Future of Manchester United loanee Dan Gore at Rotherham on the agenda

Middlesbrough boss Kim Hellberg's flying start and a good week for Leeds United and Sheffield United - The YP FootballTalk Podcast

Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw is ready for a battle to keep hold of the club’s impressive Manchester United loanee Dan Gore.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been a standout player for the Millers in League One this season, occupying a place in front of the back four and orchestrating Rotherham’s attacks.

But as ever with a player on loan for the season, clubs want them to do well but not so well that they attract interest from higher up.

For his part, Gore is keeping his head down and just concentrating on playing, but Hamshaw knows teams higher up in League One or even in the Championship could be on the phone to the Red Devils in January.

“If we get to the end of January and he’s still here it would be a great signing,” said Hamshaw of a player who has started all but one of Rotherham’s 20 league games this season and opened his senior goal account in the recent Vertu Trophy second-round rout of Salford City.

“Sometimes it’s hard with loans. You want your loan players to come in and really do well and then when they do well you might lose them in January.

“I think Dan is enjoying it here, I’m in regular contact with Man United and they seem happy with him here but if anyone comes in with an offer that blows us out of the water then he’s going to go.

“Our plan is that he stays here. He wants to stay here, he’s enjoying playing games.

“For a young player it’s important he has a 40-plus game season, so people can see he’s been fit for a full season.

"I think Man United want that and it’s what we want.

“If he’s still here on February 1 I’ll be delighted.”

Gore has said: “I’m really happy here, I just take it game by game Man United have said just keep getting the games under your belt, keep playing well.”
