Bruno Fernandes has suggested Manchester United‑linked Morten Hjulmand would be an ideal signing, while praising the midfielder's individual qualities. The Sporting Clube de Portugal captain was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, when the club looked to sign a new midfielder.

The Denmark international has been tipped to reunite with Amorim at the Reds after working with him at Sporting in Lisbon. Despite other names being mentioned including Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, speculation persists that the Reds may revisit a move for Hjulmand next year.

United opted against prioritising midfield reinforcements in the summer but are in no rush to accelerate those plans by making a move in January.

Any move, however, could face competition from Manchester City, with Portuguese outlet Record reporting that City could also explore a possible deal.

Nonetheless, Fernandes has already endorsed the idea of potentially welcoming Hjulmand to M16 in the near future.

In an interview with Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, the captain was asked to name three players from Liga Portugal who could fit into the Premier League.

"You have a lot of midfielders," he began.

"One of them, because of his intelligence and the dynamic he brings to the game, is Fredrik Aursnes.

"He's a player who would adapt to the Premier League regardless of his physicality. He's slim‑built, but I believe intelligent players always prevail here.

"Obviously, Morten Hjulmand is a complete player at the moment."

When asked if he'd like to have Hjulmand at United, Fernandes declared: "He's a player who adds to the team.

"He's intelligent, aggressive, and in the Premier League you need that. But only once you're here do you realise if you're really made for the Premier League, because it's very different compared to other leagues.

"In my view, Hjulmand would adapt well here, but I also see him fitting in the Italian league."

Meanwhile, Fernandes' comments about his future have intensified speculation. He claimed the club lacked the courage to tell him to leave last summer, and he plans to review his future after the 2026 World Cup.

, United have no plans to part with Fernandes before the summer window, in which investment will be made to strengthen the midfield.
