Bruno Fernandes has hinted that Manchester United target Morten Hjulmand would be a perfect addition to the squad, whilst highlighting the midfielder's standout attributes. The Sporting Clube de Portugal skipper was strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, when the club were searching for midfield reinforcements.

The Denmark international has been tipped to link up with Ruben Amorim at the Reds following their successful partnership at Sporting in Lisbon. Whilst other names such as Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson have been mentioned, rumours continue to suggest that the Reds could reignite their interest in Hjulmand next year.

In the summer, however, United chose not to prioritise strengthening their midfield during the summer but are believed to not be rushing to bring forward those plans with a January swoop. Any potential move, though, could face competition from Manchester City, with Portuguese publication Record claiming that City might also consider a possible deal.

Nevertheless, Fernandes has already backed the prospect of potentially seeing Hjulmand arrive at M16 in the coming months. Speaking to Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, the captain was asked to identify three players from Liga Portugal who could thrive in the Premier League.

"You have a lot of midfielders," he said. "One of them, because of his intelligence and the dynamic he brings to the game, is Fredrik Aursnes.

"He's a player who would adapt to the Premier League regardless of his physicality. He's slim‐built, but I believe intelligent players always prevail here.

"Obviously, Morten Hjulmand is a complete player at the moment."

When questioned about whether he'd welcome Hjulmand at United, Fernandes stated: "He's a player who adds to the team.

"He's intelligent, aggressive, and in the Premier League you need that. But only once you're here do you realise if you're really made for the Premier League, because it's very different compared to other leagues.

"In my view, Hjulmand would adapt well here, but I also see him fitting in the Italian league."

Meanwhile, Fernandes' remarks about his own future have fuelled further speculation. He suggested the club didn't have the bottle to tell him to move on last summer, and revealed he intends to reassess his situation following the 2026 World Cup.

It's understood that United have no intention of letting Fernandes go before the summer transfer window closes, during which investment will be made to bolster the midfield.
