Bruno Fernandes has admitted he can see himself playing late into his thirties, in contrast to former Manchester United teammate Victor Lindelof. Speaking to Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, the United captain discussed his desire to prolong his career, admitting he would even consider playing in lower divisions such as district football.

The 31-year-old, who is under contract until the summer of 2027, reaffirmed his love for football after summer interest from Saudi Arabia. Al-Hilal were said to have tabled a major offer for Fernandes, but the move collapsed, leaving Ruben Amorim's side to keep hold of their captain.

During that interview, Fernandes also hinted about being open to leaving United in the not-so-distant future if he feels he is no longer 'wanted' at the club.

He was asked if he would play until he was no longer physically able, to which he replied: "I wouldn't say until I can't anymore, I want to prolong my career as much as possible.

"It's not about the attention I get, but about the love I have for football.

"I can't imagine doing anything else, and it's hard to think that in five years I might hang up my boots."

Fernandes revealed a past conversation with Lindelof, from their time together at the club, adding: "Some players see it differently.

"Victor Lindelof once told me he won't want to play beyond the ages of 33/34.

"But I told him, I can't accept that. I wouldn't mind playing in lower leagues - I just want to enjoy the game and keep playing football.

"Maybe even, in a moment of madness, I'd play district football at an advanced age.

"That's a different way of living the sport - football played purely for love, where you’re with your teammates and friends simply because you need to play."

Lindelof, 31, left United in the summer after eight years when his contract expired at the end of last season.

He joined Aston Villa in September on a two‑year deal.
