Manchester United have made contact over a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Bournemouth star is attracting plenty of transfer interest as the January transfer window moves closer. Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his contract at the Vitality Stadium, leading numerous clubs to express an interest in signing the player.
Described by teammate Justin Kluivert as being 'world class', the 25-year-old has already scored seven goals in 16 games this term, providing three assists in the process. This comes after a 2023/24 season in which he scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 42 games.
Romano Delivers Semenyo Update
Semenyo
Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on Semenyo's situation on Wednesday evening. He told his YouTube Channel: “For Semenyo, the situation is really heating up.
“This week, Manchester United and Manchester City called to understand the situation of Semenyo. From Monday to Tuesday, some calls took place from Man United and Man City to understand the situation of Semenyo who has a £65m release clause.
“These clubs all called. Liverpool called in November and are now assessing what they want to do, both in January and with Mo Salah, before deciding on Semenyo.
“Man City and Man United have been in contact, but Man United have already invested in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and so we have to see what they can do in terms of £65m release clause, but the final decision is with the player.
“More than money, more than financial fair play, it’s the player who is deciding.”
Semenyo Would Be A Star At Man United
Antoine Semenyo
Antoine Semenyo certainly looks to have his pick of the clubs going into the January window - what a position to be in!
While it's great to have the choice to join the majority of the Premier League's biggest-hitters, the 25-year-old must be strategic in deciding what is best for him as the next step in his career.
Moving towards his prime years, the forward is at a stage where he needs to be playing at the highest level possible, but what's more important, is that he's playing regularly.
A move to Liverpool or Manchester City might offer greater hope of silverware and the biggest honours in the game, but Semenyo must be aware of the fact that he may have to get used to being a squad player.
If he moves to Old Trafford, the chances are that Semenyo will be an integral first team player who Amorim will build the team around. That, in turn, will surely increase his performances and goal tally.
With so many options, Semenyo is in a wonderful position but it's crucial for him to think about this next step sensibly, as he'll regret it if he gets it wrong.
