Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus have both expressed an interest in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to a report by Football Insider.

There was some surprise when Mesleir remained at the club in the summer with all expectations being the French goalkeeper would depart Elland Road after finding himself falling dock the pecking order to third choice behind new recruit Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow, who took Meslier's number one position towards the end of last season.

Despite the expectation and the added presence of Alex Cairns, Meslier remained at Leeds. Having not featured at all this season, there is again expectation Leeds may cash in with a small fee in January to aid their PSR position before the player departs on a free transfer in the summer.

Regardless of if he stays beyond January, Meslier will almost certainly not be at the club beyond the summer and his availability has alerted the two Italian sides, who also have their goalkeepers facing an uncertain future.

Fellow Frenchman Mike Maignan is out of contract in the summer at AC Milan, while Inter Milan's Swiss number one Yann Sommer is also in the same position.

While there is so far little talk of an early January exit to Serie A, that could become a possibility if either doubles down on a deal and believes it will allow them to secure the player's long-term future ahead of increased competition for his signature in the summer.
