Liverpool Transfer Chief Richard Hughes Told To Make 23 G/A Winger His "No.1" January Target Instead Of Semenyo

Ex-Liverpool player Don Hutchison thinks Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise should be the Reds’ “No.1” option to strengthen the wing rather than Antoine Semenyo.

Speaking to oddsboom.co.uk, Hutchison said that the club’s recruitment department would be wise to prioritise a move for the ex-Crystal Palace player if the money is available:

“I suppose if you’re Richard Hughes, then you’re operating within real-world budget constraints, which makes things different. Ideally, I’d like Michael Olise from Bayern Munich. He is the player who is just different class. He’s got a swagger about him. He’s confident; he takes a ball into his feet. He’s got brilliant ability. He could pull on that Liverpool shirt and it wouldn’t faze him. ”

“Then there’s players like Semenyo, who is clearly a brilliant young player. He can play off either flank. So he’s versatile. But you know, it’s a big step up as we saw with Milos Kerkez, when you go from Bournemouth to Liverpool. It’s a different shirt to pull on. I do think he’s got the ability, and I think he would be a really good signing, and he definitely would be a hit because he’s quick, he’s direct, he’s got pace, and he scores goals.”

“It depends on the money that you’ve got to spend. Like I said, No. 1 choice, Michael Olise. Second choice, Antoine Semenyo.”

Olise has been in outstanding form

The Frenchman has scored 9 goals and provided 14 assists for Bayern in all competitions so far this season, which is a phenomenal return from 24 matches.

Olise is averaging almost 1 goal involvement per game at the moment. That is certainly much higher than Semenyo’s return of 7 goals and 3 assists in 16 appearances.

Semenyo is the more realistic choice for Liverpool

Bayern would probably refuse any approach for Olise in January, and they would likely demand in excess of €100m (£88m) for him in the summer too.

In contrast, Semenyo will be available for £65m next month due to a release clause in his contract. However, he does have other suitors, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham, so it won’t be easy recruiting the Ghanaian either.
