Aston Villa return to Premier League action this weekend as they look to keep their push for the title on track

Aston Villa are back in Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Manchester United. They head into the game following their 3-2 win away at West Ham last time out. Attacker Morgan Rogers found the net twice against the Hammers at the London Stadium, whilst Konstantinos Mavropanos scored an own goal.

The Midlands outfit have emerged as a title contenders following their impressive recent run of form. Unai Emery's side are sat in 3rd place in the Premier League table behind Arsenal and Manchester City. Here is a look at the latest injury news and return dates in their squad...

When will Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez be available again?

Aston Villa were without goalkeeper Emi Martinez against West Ham in their last outing. That paved the way for summer recruit Marco Bizot to start between the sticks instead. Martinez missed out with a lower back injury and he will need to be assessed ahead of their game against Manchester United, who were linked with him in the last transfer window.

Defender Pau Torres was also unavailable against the Hammers and was replaced by Victor Lindelof. The Spaniard will have to be checked on over the next couple of days ahead of the match up against the Red Devils. Regarding both Martinez and Torres, Emery said last week: "We need now to know how they are, the players who played and the players who were injured. We are training now, and we are going to train tomorrow morning. And then travel to London. I don't know."

Jadon Sancho won't be able to play against his parent club. He joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United but has struggled to make an impact. Therefore, his situation is up in the air this winter amid talk he may well return to Old Trafford early.

Aston Villa injury latest regarding Ross Barkley and Tyrone Mings

Aston Villa playmaker Ross Barkley is ruled out with a knee injury. The attacking midfielder is out of contract at the end of the campaign and they have a big decision to make regarding whether to keep hold of him for longer. In terms of his current condition, Emery has said: "Ruled out as well is Ross Barkley, his injury is more than we expected. I don't know exactly, but maybe 8-10-12 weeks. Hopefully, a little bit less."

Centre-back Tyrone Mings has been in the treatment room for a while now with his thigh injury. He has been replaced in the line-up over recent times by both Torres and Lindelof alongside Ezri Konsa. He isn't expected back until later this month and his return date may even creep into January now. His head coach shared this update in early December: "I think four weeks more to be available."

Mings, 32, has been a good servant to Aston Villa since he rocked up at Villa Park back in 2019. When fit, he injects valuable experience into their ranks and will be a useful player to have in and around the dressing room. The former Ipswich Town and AFC Bournemouth man joined them on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent and he has since made 195 appearances in all competitions, eight of which have come this term.
