Harry Amass has enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday despite their off-field issues, leading to suggestions that Man United could recall him.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade and remains very well-connected there, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 18-year-old is making strong progress at Hillsborough.

Amass was recently named Wednesday’s player of the month, and has made 16 Championship appearances this season, impressing United’s academy staff.

His success has also led to suggestions that Amass could be recalled by Man United and sent elsewhere, with better-performing sides seeking his services.

However, there are currently no plans for United to cut his spell at Sheffield Wednesday short as they are happy with the progress he has made this season.

Man United unlikely to recall Harry Amass

Brown first told Football Insider in November 2024 that Amass is very highly rated at Man United, with long-term plans for him to play a role in their starting XI.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted the club are unlikely to take unnecessary risks with regard to his development.

“*Sheffield Wednesday have had a torrid time in recent months,*” he told Football Insider.

“It’s not of their own making, some of their best players have been allowed to walk out of the door due to the situation with the owner and the management of the club.

“Since Harry Amass has gone there on loan, he’s put in some very good performances in difficult conditions and established himself as a key player.

“From what I’m told, Man United are very happy with his development, he’s playing regular football at a high level and constantly improving.

“To rip that up, bring him back from his loan and then look to send him elsewhere, you put all of that at risk because there are too many issues that could come up.

“What if he goes elsewhere and doesn’t play as often? What if he doesn’t fit in as well as he has at Wednesday? These are things they need to consider.

“So United are happy with what he’s doing there and I think they’ll be content to let him crack on and keep showing what he can do.”

Ruben Amorim slammed for recent Amass comments

Amorim recent named named Amass, Toby Collyer and Chido Obi Martin, suggesting that their current clubs and form show why his side struggled.

Man United fans have slammed Amorim for his attitude towards the younger players and his decision to use them to deflect from his own shortcomings.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Amorim’s outburst has led to questions at Man United about his “bizarre” press conference rantings.

Man United drew 4-4 with Bournemouth last time out, but the performance on the pitch was not the main cause for concern after his press comments.

Brown told Football Insider on 9 December that Amorim is still under pressure at Man United amid concerns about their recent inconsistent performances.
