Celtic ace backs Wilfried Nancy's back-three setup, likens style to Ruben Amorim

Nancy's team highlights a distinct style akin to Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim's at Sporting CP.

Bernardo, who is back in the starting line-up, featured in the 2-1 defeat to Dundee United.

This result was the fourth successive loss under Nancy's management, causing unrest among the fans.

Following the match, both away supporters and online fans voiced their concerns, with many demanding the Frenchman be removed from his position after just two weeks.

Regardless, Bernardo remains supportive of the manager, who stepped into Martin O'Neill's shoes.

The midfielder believes in Nancy's method, despite the lack of on-field success so far.

The former Benfica player said, "Some players have some preferences, and some coaches have some preferences.

"Our coach likes the back three or back five, so we just need to go with that."

The midfielder compared their recent strategy to Sporting’s back three, which had initially been doubted but ultimately led them to consecutive league championships.

He said, "I don’t mind playing with a back three or back four.

"I think it’s all about balance in the team.

"I saw Sporting in the Portuguese league playing as a back three with Ruben Amorim, and no one believed it could be good, and they win back to back championship for the first time in a long period of time."

Bernardo believes their current formation has potential benefits.

He said, "So, it could be a good thing.

"I don’t see it as a bad thing.

"But yeah, of course, some players have some preference on that, but the coach believes in this system."

He added: "We just need to stick together and find a solution."

Up next for Bernardo and his teammates is a home game against Aberdeen at Celtic Park.

This match is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, immediately following the clash between Hearts and Rangers at Tynecastle.
