Italian press react to Man Utd loanee Enzo Kana-Biyik performance vs Fiorentina in Europa Conference League

Manchester United youngster Enzo Kana-Biyik has taken another major step forward in his development.

Enzo Kana-Biyik became the first ever player to be signed and then loaned to one of Ineos’ partner clubs, in summer 2025.

United signed the promising striker from Le Havre, Paul Pogba’s former club, before sending the teenager straight to Lausanne in Switzerland.

It is proving to be a useful loan, with Kana-Biyik being asked to contribute at a high level, with Lausanne doing what Manchester United aren’t… playing in European competition.

Lausanne made their way through the Europa Conference League qualifiers, knocking out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas, a result that cost him his job.

Now they are ranked ninth out of 36 teams in the group, heading for the knockout rounds, and Enzo Kana-Biyik has landed his first knockout jab.

The 18-year-old also now has an assist in the Europa Conference League, after inspiring a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina.

Fiorentina were playing without David de Gea, who was rested amid recent criticism of his own performances, in Italy.

On home turf in Switzerland, Lausanne won the game 1-0 after a run and cross from Kana-Biyik set up teammate Gabriel Sigua to score.

Kana-Biyik played 70 minutes, creating two goalscoring chances, although fired his only shot at goal narrowly wide.

It was a historic win, Lausanne’s first ever victory over an Italian opponent.

Reaction to Kana-Biyik’s performance

Enzo Kana-Biyik’s contribution piled more pressure on Fiorentina, who are having a disastrous season to date.

Kana-Biyik’s efforts were praised by the Italian media, who noted his big moment.

TMW rated his performance 7/10, adding: “He moves forward perfectly, creating constant danger with his runs, like the one that led to the decisive goal.”

Goal Italy graded him a 6.5/10, as did Sportmediaset, who wrote: “Decisive with the assist for the match-winning goal.”

Swiss outlet Bluewin added: The excellent assist for the Super League side’s deserved winning goal came from 18-year-old Enzo Kana-Biyik, who was making his first start for Lausanne in six weeks.”

Moments like this are the reason Manchester United loaned Kana-Biyik out, for him to play meaningful games at a high level. This victory sealed Fiorentina’s group stage elimination.

It is too early to assess whether he will end up starring for the Red Devils, but if Kana-Biyik can keep on creating moments like this, then he has a real chance.
