Exclusive: Mark Clattenburg says what Man Utd are now doing will ‘create problems’ in the Premier League

Manchester United have often been hard done by in terms of referee decisions; this season has been no different.

While Manchester United are pushing toward the top four, things might be going even better if the refereeing decisions had been better for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Mark Clattenburg has often criticised United-related decisions, some having big impacts on games and results.

Most recently, many believe that Antoine Semenyo could have been sent off for Bournemouth against United earlier this week after he grabbed Diogo Dalot’s neck.

All of this has tallied up, and United have had enough.

Manchester United are demanding a meeting over poor refereeing

Another surprising call saw Casemiro sent off against Chelsea for a very soft foul, which left the Brazilian completely shocked at this decision and plenty of debate.

Now, United are fed up with these decisions and believes that change is needed.

This is according to the Daily Mail, which has claimed United are now seeking a meeting with the chief of the PGMOL, Howard Webb, in the new year.

The reason for this is that United have been feeling bruised by a series of controversial decisions, which could end up being the difference between sixth and fourth this season.

Amorim is not involved in this, but officials at the club are frustrated at the increase in errors by the referees.

In particular, one instance saw Webb apologise for Nathan Collins not being sent off after he denied a clear scoring opportunity in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

So it is easy to see why the club are keen for answers.

Mark Clattenburg says this will create issues for the Premier League

This is a bold decision by United to try and avoid future errors in a league where referees are making multiple errors every week.

Speaking exclusively with United in Focus, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has said that United’s complaints are bad news for the league.

“All clubs are having issues with referees decisions, and they know each place they move up the Premier League is worth over £1 million.

“The league this season is as tight as it’s ever been, and each win can move many places. We saw two seasons ago when Nottingham Forest complained; it had a negative impact on the club.

“When one of the biggest clubs complains about the standard of refereeing, this will create problems in the Premier League and PGMOL.

“The world we are living in now, we cannot accept mistakes that are having a financial impact on the clubs.”
