Newcastle United have suffered a hammer blow ahead of the festive period after Tino Livramento was ruled out until early 2026.

Head coach Eddie Howe described the injury as 'complicated' and while he feels it is not a serious injury, Livramento has been ruled out of the Chelsea game, Boxing Day's trip to Man United and the end of year encounter at Burnley.

Livramento missed 10 matches earlier in the season after being hospitalised following an injury against Arsenal. But is now facing another long lay off ahead of a World Cup year.

Howe, speaking at his Press conference ahead of the Chelsea game, said: "We probably won't see him again until 2026.

"This is one he has done before. He will be out for a few weeks.

"It's like any player, when you suffer an injury to the same area twice, it always adds a layer of complication to it. It is a minor injury but it will keep him out for a good few weeks.

"That always makes the potential recovery time a little bit longer."

Howe stated in his Press conference that Jamaal Lascelles was still not ready while goalkeeper Nick Pope is close but still a doubt to face the Blues.

Defensive quartet Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth, Sven Botman and Dan Burn all remain on the injury list. Botman may be able to return for the festive period but the other three won't be seen until January at the earliest.

Howe hinted that Lewis Hall could be clear to face his old club, however. The left-back sat out the midweek win over Fulham but may return to take on the club where he started his career.

Howe said: "He could be, he felt some fatigue in his hamstring after the Sunderland game a couple of days afterwards. He had a scan which didn't reveal too much so let's see."
