Man Utd could now sign a player who already works brilliantly alongside Bruno Fernandes

Big plans are shaping up for the January transfer window at Manchester United, with some exciting signings being lined up.

Ruben Amorim has shown plenty of improvements this season, going from a bottom-six team in the Premier League to potentially a top-six side at Christmas.

Ineos looks set to reward Amorim for this in January. This has seen Manchester United increasingly linked with Antoine Semenyo, with a clear intention to try and sign the £65m forward.

But Semenyo won’t be alone, with United linked with several midfielders to bolster the position before a major addition can be made in the summer.

It is a signing Bruno Fernandes would welcome with open arms.

Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Neves have impressive record together

Midfield needs strengthening in January, and with the Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba moves looking unlikely. This has seen Ruben Neves emerge as a target.

Neves has a £18m price tag, making him a low-risk, high-reward signing with Premier League experience.

Bruno Fernandes was once desperate to play with Neves, and the pair have an excellent record together, which explains why.

The duo are a frequent pairing for Portugal, and together they have only lost twice in three years or eight times total for Portugal in 62 games, winning 46.

The pair make for a pretty good midfield partnership, well-balanced, and they know each other’s games really well after years of playing together.

This might suggest why Fernandes would be so keen on having Neves at Old Trafford.

Ruben Neves would be an excellent signing for Manchester United in January

As far as January signings go, Neves would be as good as they come at a price nobody could complain about.

Neves could be a starter in Casemiro’s place, or a squad player just as easily as he won’t be arriving under any illusions.

This would be useful long-term as Neves makes excellent depth in the midfield department for when United get their top targets in the summer.

Signing Neves would be the difference between sixth and fourth for United, allowing Casemiro to be rotated, and also the possibility of getting rid of Manuel Ugarte.
