Man United target could be available next year

Manchester United could face a stern test when they visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Red Devils were held to a 4-4 draw by Bournemouth in their last outing, in what was arguably the game of the season in the Premier League so far this term.

Ruben Amorim appears to have eased some of the pressure on him with his side’s results in recent weeks, following a disastrous first 12 months in charge at Old Trafford.

United now sit sixth in the Premier League table, but victory at Villa Park could see them climb into the top five.

Now, off the pitch, it has emerged that United have also been handed a boost in their pursuit of a Serie A star.

As per TEAMtalk, United target Denzel Dumfries could be available once he recovers from his current injury.

The Dutchman is currently sidelined due to an ankle problem, but the report suggests that United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United all have a genuine interest in the wing-back.

Dumfries, 29, is widely regarded as one of the best attacking wing-backs in Europe but, despite his importance to Inter, the report suggest that the Italian side wouldn’t necessarily rule out selling the player.

It is instead claimed that a valuable offer would prompt the Serie A giants to consider allowing Dumfries to leave.

Dumfries joined Inter from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and has since made 194 appearances for his current side, scoring 25 goals and registering 26 assists.

The Netherlands international is expected to miss around three months of action, but the report suggests that Man United have been in contact to ask about the player’s recovery schedule.

While a January move may not therefore be plausible, the report suggests that Dumfries could be on the move next summer amid serious interest from Premier League clubs.
