Emi Martinez is making good progress from a back injury and will continue training ahead of Aston Villa’s match against Manchester United on Sunday.

The goalkeeper missed the last two matches against FC Basel and West Ham United due to injury, although he did feature against Arsenal.

Martinez was unable to complete his warm-up before the Brighton match, but returned to action against the Gunners a few days later.

Aston Villa are now hopeful that Martinez will be fit to face Manchester United this weekend and return to the starting XI.

“Emi is progressing well. He is training individually and feeling better, much better,” Emery said. “Tomorrow we will decide if he is available for Sunday.”

Speaking about the rest of his squad, Emery also confirmed that Harvey Elliott hasn't trained ahead the match due to sickness.

“Harvey Elliott is sick and didn’t train today or yesterday," the Villa boss confirmed. “Tyrone Mings is still injured, but is getting better. In a few weeks he will join us.

“Pau Torres is the same, back in one or two weeks, something like that. Ross Barkley is out for longer.

"The other players, if all goes well, will train tomorrow and be available for Sunday.”

Villa are targeting their 10th successive win across all competitions this weekend, against a United side who have won their last two away matches.
