Manchester United had a lot of success going forward on Monday, scoring four goals against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
However, they only managed to grab a point for their efforts, as the Cherries also put four past them. While Bruno Fernandes led United’s attack, Antoine Semenyo stood out as the visitors’ most dangerous player in the final third.
The Ghana international got on the scoresheet with a superb finish in the first half and also created two chances for his side. However, a report suggests, Bournemouth are now “resigned” to losing their talisman.
Manchester United pushing to finalise Semenyo signing
According to i Paper, United are one of four clubs to have formally opened talks with Antoine Semenyo over a January move.
Semenyo signed a new contract at Vitality Stadium last summer, but the deal includes a release clause for the winter window, set at £60m plus £5m add-ons.
However, United must “wrap up a deal” with Bournemouth by 10 January. The said clause expires after just 10 days of the winter transfer window, giving his current club enough time to secure a replacement.
The Red Devils are viewed as the “frontrunners” for the signature of the in-demand winger, having already spoken to him about personal terms and their plans for his development.
Bournemouth could still have a say, as the payment terms are not set out in the clause. It is suggested that Andoni Iraola’s side could “demand a significant chunk up front” to pay for his replacement.
United face strong competition from Manchester City and Liverpool for the Ghanaian’s services. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on situation.
Semenyo is an ideal fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation
Semenyo has seven goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League this term.
The 25-year-old winger is known for his explosive pace, ferocious ball-striking and versatility. He has been described as “extraordinary” by City boss Pep Guardiola.

United head coach Ruben Amorim has previously suggested he is looking to sign a player similar to Amad Diallo to play as a wide forward or a wing-back on the left flank.
In that regard, there are very few better options than Semenyo, who has the athleticism to feature as a wing-back as well as the technical ability to make a difference in front of the net.
