Just in: Man Utd table bid for defender Liverpool have made contact to sign - report

Manchester United and Liverpool are locked in a fierce tussle to sign one of the hottest young prospects in the EFL right now.

While both clubs have ambitions of signing top-level stars in a bid to strengthen their immediate hopes of thriving in the Premier League, there's also a focus on signing young players with the future in mind.

The Football League has long been a source of up-and-coming talent for football's elite and the two north-west rivals are set to battle it out once again in a bid to sign another highly rated talent who has got fans talking.

Man United And Liverpool Chase Sheffield Wednesday Starlet

Manchester United and Liverpool have made enquiries about the signing of Sheffield Wednesday starlet Yisa Alao. According to reports from the Daily Mail, the 17-year-old talent is yet to sign a professional contract at Hillsborough and as a result could be on the move.

It's claimed that the Red Devils have lodged a bid worth £450,000, while the Merseysiders are weighing up a move of their own.

A left-back by trade, Alao has impressed plenty of Premier League scouts in the youth ranks and has since broken into the first team.

Making his debut for Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup in August, Alao made his EFL Championship debut earlier in December in a 3-0 defeat to Derby County.

As well as battling it out to sign Yisa Alao, Manchester United and Liverpool are also embroiled in a tussle to try and sign Antoine Semenyo next month.

Along with Tottenham and Man City, the two clubs are trying to sign the Bournemouth star as a result of the £65million release clause in his contract.

Coming into play on January 1, the clubs will need to move quickly in order to strike a deal with the 25-year-old. It's reported that Arne Slot's side are Semenyo's preferred destination. However, much will depend on who formalises their interest with an offer and tempts him to make the move.

That said, Man United are in pole position to complete the deal and will be desperate to add the attacking talent in order to help their push for Champions League football this term. But with Liverpool also battling to earn a top four spot this term, it'll be essential for both clubs to beat their rival to such an important signature.
